Here’s my article on speed dating. I went to one of the speed dating events to take photos–it was surprisingly uncreepy and the people seemed “normal.” Not the cougar crowd, as far as I could tell. It seems like a good format for meeting new people, without having to commit much time, money or emotional energy.
I haven’t linked often to the small business stories I write for the Asheville Citizen-Times, mostly because the newspaper deletes the stories after a couple of weeks, creating link rot on my bloggie!
Also, I’m not allowed to reprint the articles here, because, well, the newspaper wants the on-line clicks, AND they own the story once it’s published, forever (unlike the Mountain Xpress where rights revert to me after a couple of weeks).
That said, if you’re in the area, you should know about some great local shopping ideas I culled from my “small business of the week” profiles for an article in today’s AC-T. I just realized that this may be my Sunday newspaper debut. Hurrah!
Happy shopping. Remember to buy local, support American artisans, save the pandas, etc., etc.
Coming tomorrow: a biz profile on speed dating and a column on surviving the holidays with kids.
I somehow managed to spend much of the past two days on the phone, and to my dismay, I am close to missing today’s deadline. I’ll make it, but I don’t like sliding in by the non-existent skin of my teeth.
I don’t often link to my weekly biz profiles here, because, unless you’re in Ashvegas, they’re probably not compelling, but this one, about our 31-year-old homemade ice cream shop, is fun.
Plus, who can resist photos of a cute baby chowing on cotton candy ice cream. I’ve decided that I should borrow a baby for every business photo shoot I do. Or maybe I should alternate taking a baby and Biscuit along. Because, really, the newspaper photos that people seem to like the most contain either babies or dogs.
Also, I believe if you’re going to eat ice cream, you should eat only the best. Unfortunately for my wallet, I believe that about most food.
