The highlight of this past week was probably going to my boy’s “author celebration.” The kindergarteners got to sit, one by one, in the “big” rocking chair. Then each “read” his or her “small moment” story while showing off the accompanying illustrations. My boy wrote about going to a birthday part at Chuck E. Cheese. He drew a rocking picture of the huge animatronic mouse that looks suspiciously like our current President. Poor kid never gets to go to places like Chuck E. Cheese because his parents are haters, so this was one of the highlights of his year.
All the kids were so pleased with themselves and their stories. Adorable!
The lowlight of the past week was probably my bi-annual mammogram. Actually, it was better than in the past, because the technician used this foam pad under my boobs, which definitely eased the discomfort. Still, there’s nothing like getting your breasts flattened between two moving metal plates. The technician told me it used to be much worse for women, because it was difficult to control the plates and they would just keep smushing and smushing, and the tech would have to run over and release the poor woman’s boob. Ouch!
In other news, I had my hair cut and colored this week. I got some wispy bangs cut, which I think I like–I kind of look like a teenager with crow’s feet. The stylist layered my hair a bit too much, which means that, unless I dry it straight, I get that 80s big hair look. Even more like an old teenager. Scary.
Oh, and both the boy and I woke up with drainage and a low-level cough today. Please let it not be the flu. I’m in the middle of writing a huge (cover) story for Mountain X. And we have family from Boston coming in town this week. Pray for us.
So how was your week? Any exciting reports?
P.S. I rarely link to my business profiles for the AC-T because the newspaper breaks the links after a couple of weeks, but here’s today’s profile on the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, which I think some of you chocophiles will enjoy.

Work work work. Been on since Thursday, Will be working until the coming one. Plus one of the guys at work was/is sick so I’m praying I don’t catch his cold.
Heat’s broken, so its been COLD in the mornings about this place.
Carra is graduating to going outside during the day without supervision. I’m nervous as all get out about this. Will my baby girl be okay?
Speaking of which - off to get her in before I go to work.
My GPS got me into neighborhoods in Miami that I shouldn’t have been in. Always keep a map handy to bail you out.
Mallory Square in Key West is still funky, with the street performers and tourists wandering around half bombed. (The tourists that is, not the street performers.)The sunset was great…
A fun trip but too short.
FB Chocolate Lounge - love it. Been there twice. What a great concept…. My weekend pretty ho-hum. Had to give a 5 minute reflection on Cuba at my church which took me about 3 hours to wrie. YIKES! i’ll post on my blog soon.
In Portland for a conference, which is pretty doggone good! But I must say the highlight was the dream I had last night that I had young, perky, 25 year old, pre-nursing baby breasts again. I was smokin’!
it was Helen’s birthday this weekend so i was off my diet to go to several restaurants including a family affair at Tomato Cocina Latina which was verrry good!
I was alone this week. Mary and Lucy went to N.C. (near Charlotte) to play with pottery over the long weekend. So, I did nothing. Oh, I did fix the toilet. Turns out the little nylon bolts that hold the toilet seat to the toilet proper will snap like a toothpick if a seven-year-old girls tries to jump from the toilet to the sink. Off to Kent State today to recruit idealistic youths to join a corporate giant.
This week? This week was horrible. So tonight, Thursday, I soothed my aching heart at the Chocolate Lounge. Now, the place was full of nothing but 30-something ladies with their book clubs and their iPhones. The lighting leaves a *lot* to be desired, and the help doesn’t have their rhythm down yet (long stretches without music, uneven wait times on the six liquid truffles our table ordered throughout the night). The four of us definitely maxxed out. I drank a lavender liquid truffle, and followed that with a kulfi solid truffle (rose, pistachio, cardamom), a salty caramel, a press of decaf, and then split a greasy croissant spread with dark ganache and raspberry ganache.
That would explain why I’m still awake at midnight.
