Coffee and donuts, anyone?

Asheville’s first Dunkin’ Donuts opens tomorrow, just a ways down the road from the pnav. We were sooooo sad to lose the original Sisters McMullen’s donut location just around the corner a few several years back (of course, it was good for my hips when Sisters moved). Dunkin’ won’t be quite as good as the Sisters (I hear the donuts will be made in Greenville, S.C., and trucked up here), but still…yumorama!

When we lived in Boston, there seemed to be a Dunkin’ on every other street corner. I became a Dunkin’ coffee and cinnamon cake donut addict. And the kids don’t have school tomorrow. We’ll all be there in our jammies. See y’all!

Update: Took the kidlings there this morning. What a scene! Smart of them to open on a day that kids are out of school. Parking is atrocious. I do feel for the folks down Coleman (my former hood) whose street was packed with overflow parking from DD! And they got my donut order wrong, but it was pretty loud in there.

Like any true New Englander I love Dunkin Donuts, even if they are now owned by the Carlisle Group (Bush family). It figures that Ashville would get one now that I’m gone.

There is one opening on Merrimon tomorrow (same one? I know there’s a couple opening) about a block from my work. I’ll be there for one of their sour cream donuts. It will certainly be a new exercise in self control, similar to when I was finally able to successfully resist the red light at Krispy Kreme each morning. -dm

That’s the one, Don! At the BP station on the corner of Merrimon and Coleman. See ya there!

The Bush family? Bah. I can’t eat there anymore now… I don’t give money to Republicans. (No Wal*mart, no Red Lobster, No Olive Garden - I even refuse to shop at locally owned place I know. I get to vote with my wallet 365 days a year.)

And I so loved their chocolate cake donuts. *sigh*

Try the pumpkin muffins. OH, they are SOOO good.

DD would be good. Although I work in a town that’s the birthplace of Krispy Kreme, and I am surrounded by Moravian cookies and sugar cake so much now that I am almost sick of them (hard to believe, but true).

That’s going to be about a 1 mile walk from my house. Perfect. I can go for a run, get a donut and then keep running.
My fav are the jelly munchkins, IMHO they are a little bite of nirvana.

I went … AND they gave out free DD refrigerator magnets.

Yeah … that’s right “DD”. I have a million suggestive comments to make but I’ll curb my enthusiasm.

    Hahaha.

    Hi, Edgy Mama,

Some of your dear readers may remember, as I do, when there was a Dunkin’ Donuts on Tunnel Road, near the bus station. Then Krispy Kreme moved into two locations, the current Patton Ave. building and another store on an island of land near the Asheville Mall. (Frank’s Roman Pizza was also there.)

Ah, late night donuts and coffee before I was old enough for bars and beers. I wouldn’t go back if you paid me a million dollars!!

    Thanks for the memories!

Not the first! You’re right, Theda, I should change that. Several folks have commented that there was a DD here long, long ago…

Check out my review of Dunkin’ Donuts over at http://www.shewhoeats.wordpress.com

I didn’t know they were Republican mafia, but now that I do, I don’t think I’ll be returning. For the same reason, I’ve never even been to a Domino’s Pizza.

After I read your blog, I sent the Man up to the DD on Monday. I’m just not feeling it. I’d rather save my calories for a local ESB.

well I think I will head for DD and Dominos. I didn’t know they were owned by Republicans, so thanks for the tip. No wonder they are so successful.
