This dude actually climbed up on a lamp post to get a wolf’s eye view of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band on Saturday at Bele Chere. The band drew the biggest crowd I saw at the street fest, although I must admit that I did more people watching than band watching. Also, today I was there with the kidlings which meant watching $ drip through my fingers as I paid for their quick bursts of joy on the cheesy over-priced kid rides.
Anyone hear some good music at the fest? Or anywhere else?

For the first time ever, we took kids on Saturday instead of Sunday. We saw Afromotive, which was DELICIOUS! That’s a local band, right? (Man, we need to get out more.) They were fantastic!
The kids both came home with monkey head coconut cups, and, even though the cups cut into their kiddie rides budget, the kids were blissful. In fact, they even drank from them all day today!
Going on Saturday meant that my kids learned a few lessons about excess. First lesson, maybe three college-aged women in sundresses shouldn’t ride the surfboard ride after a few beers. The crowd cheered loudly when one woman tumbled off and her dress fell up around her ears. Much later in the evening, we saw a fellow who would have been lost without his two great friends who helped him to a safe spot for sitting.
It was about then that we decided to head for home.
I saw lots of local folks enjoying downtown who don’t usually spend much time there. I vote for keeping it on the last weekend of July!
(Sorry if I have exceeded the acceptable comment length!)
We saw Stephanie’s Id on Saturday, which was good. I got a good clip of your wolfman there too.
Granola Funk Express on Saturday was also pretty good. I got a clip of one of their full songs.
So many good Asheville bands … why aren’t they more well known?
Buncombe Turnpike lulled me to sleep. The Goodies were weird and kinda fun. By Morning had songs that all sounded the same.
The best music i saw, by far, was an Ashvegas band called Lake Effeckt. i’m no fan or hard rock/metal, but these guys had heartfelt songs, a nice stage presence, and their lead guitarist absolutely tore it up.
Makes me want to bust out with a little Zevon, that guy does…
Nothing big on the music front, unless you count the giggles / crying of little children as music…
Theda,
There’s no limit on comment length! I saw Afromotive briefly, but was overcome by the wall of sound!
Yes, interesting lessons for kids to learn on Saturday. My kids did the surfboard and rocked it. Particularly the boy, who had his first moment ever of doing something better physically than his athletic sister!
Nice clips, Don. Next year I might have the technology for that!
I wanna hear Lake Effekt, Ash. Any YouTube vids?
Better get a life, S.C. You only have a few more months to do so!
