I know all you parents want to read more about the toy craze that’s making your kids whiny. Here’s my article on those crazy Webkinz.
What is it about collecting things that intrigues the species? Bottle caps, baseball cards, Cabbage Patch Kids, Pokemon, Webkinz…life is just an endless series of products that prepare us to buy from the Franklin Mint as adults…
I’m going to have to disagree with s.c. Webkinz is actually really cool. My 2 girls love them. As someone with way too many stuffed animals around the house, I initially thought they were a total waste too. But if you’ve ever been on the Webkinz site, it’s really well done. It takes them to a really entertaining virtual world — SecondLife for kids.
I heard of Webkinz three days ago. Yesterday, I drove an hour round trip to get the dalmatian that isn’t supposed to be released until next week. I found that out from the owner of the Hallmark two minutes from my house. Anyway, while I was at the closer store, I picked up the lion. The web site looks fun and I am typing this comment super quickly because I have a 5-year-old waiting very impatiently for his time on the computer. I wonder how long this will last? I really need my PC, and I’m not buying a second one for this Webkinz habit! Great article, btw.
Yeah, anonymous, I actually said in the article that Webkinz world is Second Life for pre-pubescents, but I had to take it out because so many folks round here don’t know what Second Life is!
I know, SC. It is crazy. However, I have given in. My girl has three Webkinz, and the boy has two. We’re typically pretty cautious about jumping on the collection bandwagon though.
You’re doomed, fringes. I completely blame Webkinz world for my recent lack of blogging and blog reading. When I can get to my computer, I have to work, dammit!
Wow, I did not realize they are so popluar..I will get one for my daughter.
I worked for Gary during the Beanie Baby craze and it was fun until adults (not very bright adults) started snapping them up because they thought they would get rich reselling them.
You see a lot of Beanie Babies these days at flea markets for $2.
My daughter knows nothing of the Webkinz, hopefully I can keep it that way. Of course, I am pretty much letting the Internet raise her so …
hmmmm… I hadn’t even heard of these. It’s funny how toys today have so much to do with computers or electronics. When I was growing up we had rocks, sticks, bikes and maybe a cardboard box to play with.
I sound like an old person, “Back in my day…”
Hey! Where did my long and witty comment go? I hate word verification…grrrr.
So, I said wait! Go back to the hospital gift shop and get that tree frog for me!
And then I said these sound like a definite step away, in the right direction, from Bratz.
And, as usual, a very well-written and cohesive article; this Webkinz phenomenon is now very clear to me.
Now, back into your recent archives, whilve you answer my e-mail…
P.S. I like that polar bear, too.
