Well, at least if you’re in Asheville and into taking photos, this is a mega cool fun idea.
The amazing Ash threw this out to some of us Flickrites a few days ago:
“There are so many wonderful photogs out and about in Asheville that i thought it might be fun to see if we could get as many flickr maniacs together as possible and do one of those “Day in the Life of” projects.
We pick a day - 24 hours - and shoot it. Maybe we have a theme. ‘Interpret Ashvegas.’ Maybe not. We should try for spring or early summer.
Then we load all the photos to a flickr group. Maybe we print some of the ones we like the most and do a little show at one of the umpteen galleries around town.
What do you think? What are your ideas? Anybody interested?”
Yes, yes, I am! As are 15 other people so far. So if you’re in Ashvegas or even in Buncombe County and want to join the party, here’s the Flickr discussion linkee.
We’ve already gotten a note from a librarian who wants copies of the photos for the library’s North Carolina collection!
We’re having an initial meet and greet and drink and shoot (each other, I guess) on Saturday, February 17, at 4:00 p.m. at Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Avenue. Spread the word!
Here’s a teaser from my files. This is talented musician Kevin Scanlon performing an original song at last Thursday’s “True Home” Open Mic night at The Courtyard Gallery. Podcast here. Check out more of my shots from this event in tomorrow’s Take5 street edition!

Cool pic of Kevin. I played with him at the Root Bar on Monday night. Great guy and great musician. -dm
thanks for helping spread the word, EM! it’s gonna be great.
Cool, don m! I’m just about to e-mail Kevin some shots. I accidentally ran into him twice in a week and photographed him playing. Where are you playing next?
I was going to go to The Courtyard with Kevin tonight, but I forgot I am going to the Brett Dennen concert at the Grey Eagle.
I’ll let ya know.
Meanwhile, I’m off to pick up a Take 5.
Cheers.

I didn’t realize that this photo was going to run on the front of Take5–particularly as I wasn’t asked for a cutline for it, so, sadly Kevin is not identified. Damn.
Have fun at the Grey Eagle. I’ll be holed up here with the kidlings trying to stay warm tonight!
What a great idea!!
This is a hreat idea but I can’t take part in Ashville stuff so I will observe from afar. But the zoo post! I love it! Oh, its making me smile. I want very much to go to Atlanta to see the new aquarium- it’s getting rave reviews in zoo circles- and I would go to the zoo, too! Great pictures, EM, not the least those two beautiful creatures at the end.
I have a sad empty myspace page but only so I can follow Dan’s band’s My Space. Every once in a while somebody sends me a note saying they want to be my myspace friend and then I get all anxious. Even if I know them really well.
EM,
I sent Kevin your email address via his MySpace account (http://www.myspace.com/klscanlon)
I guess there’s a reason to have MySpace ….
