Weirdness abounds

If you’re still seeing red on my bloggie, let me know. Super Eddo is working to fix my code.

Yep, I had my seven seconds of national TV headtalk last night. I haven’t found a linkee to any vid, but if I do, I’ll post it.

I’m not sure what I said because I couldn’t help but notice that my face was shiny. Where’s the make-up guy when you need him? I needed my nose powdered, dammit.

Also, I’m always surprised at how soft-spoken I sound on camera. I think of myself as an energetic talker, but I think I sound like I’m talking through salt water when I hear myself. When I’m tired, my speech really slows down, so I start sounding like a LP set on 55 (if you’re under 35, you probably won’t get this simile).

Last night’s CCN program, Broken Government, was all about Heath Shuler and Western North Carolina–much more so than I’d realized. That was the exciting part–seeing my city and mountains and friends on the screen. CNN also showed the front page of my newspaper, though that’s a bit of a contentious issue.

I did say, on TV, that I’ve heard Heath described as Republican Lite, which I think he is, but, as the show pointed out, that may be the only way a Dem can win in this district.

As I’m actually co-hosting a party tonight for Heath, I hope he’s not mad at me. This congressional race has become so nasty that there seems little room for gray. I’ve been accused of being unfaithful to Heath because I don’t share all his beliefs. Which is ridiculous. I don’t share all of anyone’s beliefs, particularly those of someone who is pro-life (yep, that may be the future, y’all: pro-life dems). But that doesn’t mean I don’t support Heath. I do. And I’ll keep giving him money and co-hosting parties, and I will vote for him. And I’ll exhort others to do the same.

Because, yes, he is a compromise. He’s not my ideal candidate. But he has a chance of winning. Which no one else has had for the past eight elections (well, other than Taylor, obviously). AND, as I mentioned before, Heath’s heart is in the right place on a lot of issues, in particular, the environment. And he’s a good person. And cute. Not that I would EVER vote for anyone based on looks (I’ve been attacked for talking about his looks, too).

This is just my opinion. If you want to debate, do it elsewhere. Here on Edgy, we’re gonna stay shiny.

See, I was thinking you looked slightly…oh, what’s the word…rabid last night.

    :)

I hate the perception that, to vote for a candidate, you have to completely agree with all of their politics.

Still seeing red, literally, from my Safari browser on my Mac.

And, I am with you on Heath and supporting the environment!

I thought that you were fabulous my dear. Good luck with the party tonight.

BTW, no red here in my Firefox browser.

hmmm… I made some code changes, but they were only minimal and then blogger flaked on the upload and so I am still working out the bugs.

As for the voting and not voting and supporting and dems and repubs, I always admire anyone who believes in something and stands by it despite the conflict and confrontation it sometimes causes.

Go EM. I may not support all your causes, but I do support you!

I love how supportive you are of your community. I don’t know much about your candidate outside of football, but if you’re supporting him , I’m sure he’s a good egg.

The bloggie looks perfect under Internet Explorer 7.x (the public release, not the betas or release candidates), and also under Firefox 1.5.0.7.

Shuler has my vote, although it’s a tepid vote at best and I’m keeping my Patsy Keever bumper sticker from 2 years ago.

Shuler is not a Democrat who charges up his own base (as Chainsaw Charlie Taylor charges up his base). This leads me to believe that he’s really after the Republican vote in western NC and assuming that all the Democrats will stick with him just because he’s not Taylor.

He’s probably right on the latter count, but on the former I think that Taylor will outpoll him. What Republican voters are going to jump parties to support a candidate who gives them what they already have…pro-choice, etc.?

If Shuler has a pitch to make, it’s probably that he’s a greenhorn and has no voting record, or any real public record of any sort.

Taylor can shriek incomprehensibly about “late taxes” and “Nancy Pelosi,” but these arguments are mostly obvious wank and won’t stick like the “Keever is a Pornographer” line from ‘04.

So the Dems will stay with Shuler (but will not appear in droves at the polls), while disaffected and unaffiliated voters, if they show up to the polls at all, will go with the more shallow pond of bullshit, which would be Shuler.

Republicans will appear in numbers and will cast the usual lemming vote for Taylor.

It’s a GOTV race and probably will be very tight at the finish line.

Missed you on CNN last night, as I normally miss all things on TV. Congrats on your 7 minutes.

If Pro-Life is the future of the Democratic Party, then I’m moving to Botswana.

It seems to be the Safarians who are having trouble. See what happens when you Mac-out? Actually, I’d love one.

Thanks, eddo, fringes, a loyal, and Jim. Jim, I thought you were right on. I know it sounded like you weren’t supporting Heath, which I know you are, but even so, your point was so true, and identified this liberal’s discomfort clearly.

    See you in Botswana, JA!
