Tonight. CNN. 8-9 p.m. “Broken Government.” I know my friend (and congressional candidate) Heath Shuler will be on the show, as will a number of Ashvegans, including John Boyle, political reporter for the Asheville Citizen-Times, and possibly, little old me. Remember, my real name is Anne Fitten Glenn, not Edgy Mama. And if I stutter or say something dumb, you can give me hell tomorrow. And if you’re gonna be offended by my leftist leanings, too bad. We live in a democracy. Which is way kewl. Most of the time. Kay?
In totally unrelated news, I interviewed this Russian couple yesterday who’ve opened a small grocery store over off Patton Avenue. They’re importing all kinds of food, beer, and wine from Eastern Europe. Yum. Despite my protests, they sent me home with a bag of chocolates. I gave half to the newsroom, but I kept the “liquor” chocolates for myself.
I am now an addict. As I sit here, drinking my coffee, I’m wondering if it would be a problem to eat a dark chocolate infused with sugared vodka for breakfast. What do you think?

That store is great. I bought some beer from Belarus and Latvia there last week along with some pickled herring. I love watching my wife’s expression whenever I eat that stuff. She thinks it’s vile.
As for the vodka-laced chocolate for breakfast, go for it.
I hope to see you on CNN tonight.
Cool! When’s the story about that little market on Patton Ave. going to run? (I think they’re called “Euromarket”?)
There were a couple of great little Russian markets out toward Enka/Candler for a while a few years ago, but they closed down because of lack of business. Maybe a little plug in AC-T will keep this one going.
By the way, at noon, now, your blog is wacked. All the text is underlined and when you scroll over it it turns red. It seems to be hyperlinked to a blank profile page???
Will look for you on TV! Quite exciting!
Yes, we’ve been having some tech difficulties. Super Eddo is coming to the rescue. It seems that if you use Mozilla instead of Internet Explorer (as I always do), the site is problem-free. But we do want to offer equal access.
APC, I’m with your wife on the pickled herring. YUCK. But give me a Hungarian salami anytime! (Setting you up, SC).
Anony, the Euromarket story will run on the front of Monday’s biz page (my beat) prolly in about 2-3 weeks! Thanks for asking!
Have several. I will be watching tonight to catch a glimpse of you. I was on TV several times, including an hour long special on CBS about adoption. I HATED it. Terrible, terrible, terrible. So, if you’re on, I hope you really love yourself and make a tape you can watch over and over again. Me? I paid family members to sell them back to me.
On to other things- a great series of colorful posts between lightbulbs and here. But I wanted to let you know I ordered a whole house full of environmentally friendly light bulbs, including new reflectors for the cans- which I didn’t know they made. ComEd in Illinois is running a big discount promo. And I thought of you.
It’s true- you’ve got “write.”
Chocolate with liquor….YUM …I just hope they ship to GA. I can’t think of a better breakfast.
Sounds like a great way to start a day. Especially if you are having a hectic morning.
Hurrah, Vicki!!! Saving the world. Gotta write about light bulbs again.
Hurrah, Eddo. See, he always saves the day!!
anony, I’ll bring you some liquor chocs next time I’m in Georgaw. I’ve eaten like five today. It’s a problem.
We (the Redhead and I) see you.
And no, we’re not peeping through your window…tonight…
Very nicely done.
Just caught you on CNN, EM. Nice comments, though I wish they’d used your “bacon” soundbite, too.
Nice job!
In fact, we thought we’d get a head start and rag you on Tuesday night. Except my wife can’t figure out how to mock a strong Demoncrat…being one herself…
who needs chocolate when you can have straight vodka? why water it down?
But ND, vodka mixed with sugar and cocoa and eaten for breakfast is da bomb!
Euromarket is great. The best thing for me (as an expat Brit) is the tea: loose tea at low prices that hits the sweet spot between the Ingles selection and the frankly-overpriced stuff at Earth Fare. But there are also Russian and Eastern European things that I like, including their take on the all-conquering Jaffa Cake.
