Recent books that I’ve read: Stealing Democracy by Spencer Overton. This is an outstanding book which highlights the multiple ways in which the “establishment” because this can be either Republican or Democratic establishment, suppresses votes in areas that they do not want people to vote.
Cobra II by Michael Gordon and General Bernard Trainor. Progressives believe that we know the problems that have led us to the debacle that we now have in Iraq. This book gives us a blow-by-blow account of the failings of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and, more importantly, General Tommy Franks. I had a relatively high opinion of Tommy Franks before reading the book. My opinion is completely changed since then.
The 1% Doctrine by Ron Suskind. This book reads easily but is a little light on the information. Cobra II is, to quote Donald Rumsfeld, all long hard slog. There are over 500 detailed pages in the book. The 1% doctrine examines the CIA response after 9/11. It appears to go out of its way to resurrect the reputation of George Tenet. Still, it’s a good read.
Finally, Fiasco by Tom Ricks. Although, cobra II is an adept critical account of the Iraq war, Fiasco has even more detail. I’m only about three quarters of the way through but this is a fantastic book with outstanding information.
Need I remind you that my books come in two forms…
1. Popup books with pretty colors.
and
2. Books on 8-Track where they use small words and read slow…
Your last post was so sweet. I’m glad I didn’t miss it!
