Ashvegas photographed and blogged about a band listed their influences on their website, and, thus, inspired me to create a similar list.
Here, for your delectation, in no particular order, are a few of my influences: Alice in Wonderland, grandparents (mine and yours), dark chocolate, magnolia trees, Michael Chabon,
the Blue Ridge mountains, REM, Shakespeare, Cyprus, men with nice grins, micro-brewed beer, John Irving, fear, turkey feathers, Eleanor Roosevelt, carpe diem, fast rivers, my kids, the national anthem, Kurt Cobain, joy, French impressionism, the American Civil War, Stephen King, comic books, the New York Times, Dr. McAlexander (college English teacher), my
parents, Ansel Adams, cats (particularly orange tabbies), cute guys, Thai food, bloggers (too many to name–you know who your are), William Butler Yeats, yoga, girlfriends, nachos (okay, ANY Mexican food), bluegrass music, love.

Go Thai food!!!
I like this…I may steal it for my blog.
hey–I’ve read your fiction…it’s quite redolent of all the pretentious white guys that I like, so where is Pynchon, DeLillo, McCarthy, Wolfe,…,…,…

Anyone influenced by orange tabby cats is OK in my book (not to mention Thai food, Stephen King, dark chocolate, micro-brewed beer, or Eleanor Roosevelt.)
A few random additions of my own: my wife, Fleet Admiral Ernest King, my high school librarian, dogs, horror novels, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy.
You forgot bananas. As in: “Yes, We Have No Bananas.”
I have gone bananas. Goodbye.
How about oxygen? Has that influenced you at all?
“You are the wind beneath my wings.”
My list is on my blog - and I appreciate the pic of Luke Wilson!
O, I love Luke Wilson’s grin.
Okay, Theseus, yes to Wolfe. No to DeLillo. Yes to Thompson. No to Bukowski. Yes to Ginsberg.
Lack of oxygen has definitely influenced me, Paul.
Cute, AD!
Remember this is just a few of my influences. How could anyone list them all?
Influences?
Pam Anderson. Aphra Behn. Hairy herding dogs. Rack of lamb, medium rare. Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Amy Mann and most female pop stars with the exception of any Simpsons. James Joyce. The Addams Family. Dracula. Katherine Anne Porter, Jeanette Winterson, Anaïs Nin, Ernest Hemingway, David Foster Wallace and Angela Carter. Carla Dunlap. Gilda Radner. Sno-globes and wind-up toys. Corsets.
So good to see Michael Chabon on your list. I bought “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” a few years ago and devoured that book. There was something in there that just struck a chord with me…some combination of the story, the message and the writing that made it — at least for me — that rare book that changes your life.
let’s try that again with the right word usage…
Hot athletic nubile women… wait, what type of influences are we talking about here? I thought influenced implied some type of action where inspiration on the other hand might shape an idea, but that idea may never come to fruition. So hot athletic women inspire me… commercials and MTV influence me.
seeing the Milky Way from a darkend vessel; clean sheets; suki-yaki, cool water, tracers (they work both ways) and finally children’s laughter.
