My girl saw my top ten list and wants to contribute her own (she’s home sick today, so we’ve been reading, writing, and talking about books–a typical day in the EM household).
1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. “I thought Sirius Black was a bad guy, but he wasn’t,” says the girl.
2. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. “It’s so funny. I like it when the teacher is scared of the cat,” says the girl.
3. Stuart Little by E.B. White.
4. The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White.
5. Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. “E.B. White is a great author,” says the girl.
6. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie.
7. The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum. “I like the cowardly lion,” says the girl.
8. The Minpins by Roald Dahl.

…do any of them have pictures?
I like pictures….
Good call on Prisoner of Azkaban, fantastic book.
Trumpet of the Swan is, if not my absolute favorite, in the ttop three E.B. White books.
Stuart Little is the best. I actually wrote two sequels when I was in elementary school.
Couldn’t get them published though, so I’ll tell you - the bird came back!
You have got to stop calling them “my girl” and “my boy”. “My daughter” or “my son” works, but you make them sound like…creatures or something. They are too cute for that.
Your daughter has an excellent list. I love Dahl.
Well, the lion was okay, but did you ever see Ray Bolger dance? With long legs going every which way, he was a whiz(zer of Oz).
Good list.
Anne, it recently occurred to me that maybe you never got my reply about contributing to your magazine since you had to post on my Live Journal as Anonymous. To wit: I don’t have anything new in the way of flash fiction (my recent attempts have become full-blown short stories, too), but if you’re not adverse to reprints, you’re perfectly welcome to have “The Frozen People”, the fairy-taleish (according to one review) flash piece I published in *Abyss & Apex* this summer.

You inspired me.
I love Charlotte’s Web!
I never read #8, but I loved the rest! Tell her to dig into the other Frank L Baum books. I ripped through the whole series of Oz books when I was five. Ozma of Oz, The Tin Man of Oz, et al. Terrific stuff! I didn’t like the ones by other authors quite as much, but I remember still liking all books that had to do with Oz as a small one.
Next stop: Little Women.
And EM, I did my list, whenever you’re ready…
