Great Mystery

In Southern Cyprus, a magic road plunges towards the coast. The road is not heavily traveled, which is good, because that would make experiencing its magic impossible.

What you must do is this: you must stop your car or truck at some random point on the downhill slope of the dusty road. You must turn off the engine. Do not engage the brake. Wait for a few seconds. Then, as your multi-ton vehicle begins to roll backwards up the hill, you may squeal in delight. You, and the heap of metal you rode in on, will roll uphill, defying gravity, for several hundred feet.

This is one of the great mysteries of the world.

You completely lost me on this one.

    Hmmm….

and if you have some beans you can toss them into the road and they will grow into a huge beanstalk and you can climb this beanstalk and find a chicken that lays golden eggs… but watch out for the giant!

what? Southern Cyprus? Magic road? Rolling uphill, backwards?

Please, we need more information than THIS.

Are you sure we won’t squeal from something other than delight? What if someone is motoring over the crest of the hill and starting down as we go up (backwards)? Hmmmmn, a collision wouldn’t be called a head-on collision… What do you suppose they’d call it? ~;^) But seriously, it does sound kind of interesting. How did you come by this fascinating knowledge? Will it be featured in your new manuscript? Inquiring minds want to know… ~;^)

Foxy Mama comes close–way to go.

This is the beginning of a short story I’m writing on the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Just thought I’d throw it out there and see what kind of response I got.

And the road is real–I’ve been there and experienced it.

Edgy Mama, tell us some more great mysteries of the world, since you have experienced this first hand, perhaps you have more you have not shared!! We want to know what you know, so we will know as much as you know, is that possible?

you have been to Cyprus and experienced the backwards riding up gravity-defying mystery?

yes, we do want to know more!

First off, would any of you want to read more of the short story?

Secondly, I lived in London for a couple years and dated a guy who was British/Cypriot and got to travel to his parents’ vacation home on Mount Olympus. Quite the memorable journey.

Maybe it’s not a mystery, Edgy Mama, but Magneto using his powers for good!

One time I thought this kid was defying gravity when he jumped into the air in slow motion like Keyono Reeves in the movie Matrix, but he was just getting a wedgie.

    Nice to meet you!
